Training Modules

Six modules, taught in a deliberate sequence

Every module below builds on the ones before it. You can start wherever the short assessment places you, but the underlying order is designed to avoid gaps.

01

Spreadsheets Beyond the Basics

Formulas that go past SUM and AVERAGE, structured tables, data validation, conditional formatting and pivot tables built from real reporting scenarios. This module assumes only that you have opened a spreadsheet before.

  • Formulas & functions
  • Pivot tables
  • Data cleaning
3 sessions Foundational
02

Understanding Data: Structure, Sources and Quality

What makes data usable in the first place. How rows, columns and fields relate to each other, where inconsistencies usually come from, and how to spot quality problems before they turn into a wrong number in a report.

  • Data structure
  • Source tracking
  • Quality checks
2 sessions Foundational
03

Introduction to No-Code Automation Tools

How connector-style automation platforms work conceptually, and how to build a simple trigger-and-action flow that moves information between two everyday tools without writing code.

  • Triggers & actions
  • Tool connections
  • Testing flows
3 sessions Intermediate
04

Building Simple Dashboards and Reports

Turning cleaned data into a dashboard someone else can read in under a minute. Covers layout choices, chart selection, and how to avoid the most common reporting mistakes that confuse rather than clarify.

  • Chart selection
  • Layout principles
  • Sharing reports
2 sessions Intermediate
05

Forms, Surveys and Structured Data Collection

Designing intake forms and surveys that produce clean, usable data from the start, rather than requiring a cleanup pass afterward. Includes basic response validation and routing.

  • Form design
  • Response validation
  • Routing rules
2 sessions Intermediate
06

Documenting and Maintaining Your Own Workflows

How to write clear documentation for the spreadsheets and automations you build, so someone else, including a future version of you, can understand and maintain them without starting over.

  • Documentation habits
  • Handover notes
  • Ongoing maintenance

How exercises are built

Each module includes short instructional segments followed by a hands-on exercise using a realistic office scenario, such as reconciling a monthly expense sheet or setting up a recurring status report. You work with template files rather than starting from a blank page, which keeps the focus on the technique rather than formatting from scratch.

Exercises are reviewed against a model answer, and the guided cohort format includes a live walkthrough where common sticking points get addressed directly.

Small group sessions for the automation module

Because automation concepts tend to click faster in conversation than in isolation, module three includes an optional small group session where participants map out one real recurring task from their own job and sketch how it could be automated, before building it individually afterward.
